We've started planning for our movie. We think we are going to have around 4 victims who are going to be killed by Jack the Ripper. In the opening, we want to cut between seeing the victims being killed and the killers board where pictures of the victims will be as well as credits. We also might need a scene at the end, so we are thinking of having a detective come to the scene of one of the killings and set it up so that the rest of the movie would be about him trying to discover who Jack the Ripper is.
I am going to be in charge of costume and make-up, making the story board and doing the survey as we are all sharing that part of the production.

To start planning for our film, we have gone out and asked people what kind of horror movies they enjoy. We asked a series of questions to gauge our audience and see what people would watch. It went well, but we added in more relevant questions the more people we asked as we could direct them to answers we needed. This has helped us get a better idea of what our audience- which is mostly teenagers- would enjoy and if they like our idea. We have tried to get a wide variety of age groups to interview so we went out during break times to ask younger years.
This week, we had to present our pitches for the group film. We all got up at the front and explained our ideas, mine was a pyschological film about a crazy stalker girl constantly stalking her ex boyfriend. We all then voted on who's we wanted to make, I liked Yuden's pitch because it had an element of pyschological horror as well as being quite stalker-like and interesting to film and Daniel's pitch, because of it's Jack the Ripper idea in a modern setting.
Once the pitches got picked we had to go to the 'leaders' and pitch ourselves to them, saying what we believed we would bring to each group. I focused on talking about camera work because that is what I believe I am strongest on and gave some ideas on how certain bits could be filmed. In the end, Daniel chose me, Yuden and Shane to be in his group. During half term, I had to research several horror movie openings so I get a real feel of the way horror movies are constructed, especially it is important for me because I do not normally watch horror films. I analysed The Woman In Black, Halloween and Gone Girl due to their differences in sub genres- The Woman In Black being a period horror/gothic horror, Halloween being a traditional slasher and Gone Girl being a psychological thriller- and different techniques used within them.
I have also finished researching horror sub genres, finding out about each one. There are many like Slasher, Splatter and Phycological, but there are ones I have never heard of like I never realised Zombie Horror is a sub genre. The directors and production company research is finished as well. I have been researching movie openings for inspiration for my movie pitch and to get a feel of different techniques in horror movies. We had to research one film for 3 different categories of techniques; Voice over, Tracking and pace, then had to chose a film opening to also analyse. For Voice Over, I chose No country for old men. For Tracking I chose Lord Of War because I really like the different perspective we get and for Pace I chose Trainspotting because it is a bit different and a lot of horror movies begin quite slowly so it might be cool to have a faster paced opening to shock the audience before the rest of the movie. In addition to this, I chose to analyse one of my favourite movie openings as it incorporates pace, voice over and successfully creates the atmosphere for the rest of the movie as well as having an enigma that some fans would understand while others it may be a total mystery to them. The film is Rush (2013) about Niki Lauda and James Hunt.
Preliminary Task
For this task, we had to film a very shot scene that included certain techniques.
